Utilities Underground Location Center - NOW Washington 811 - was started on July 31, 1978, by five Seattle area utilities: Pacific Northwest Bell (now CenturyLink), Puget Sound Power & Light (Puget Sound Energy), Washington Natural Gas (Puget Sound Energy), Seattle City Light, and King County Department of Public Works.
Initial service area was King County, Washington. As of 31 July 2015, Washington 811 provides call before you dig service to 1461 facility owners in Washington & Montana.
As of June 2016, WA811 has processed 8.8 million "Call Before You Dig" requests.
The call center is operated by One-Call Concepts.
